Vocabulary A1–A2
Observe the scene and discover each word through the image and three example Italian sentences.

You go a scuola (to school) with no article, but all’asilo (to nursery school) and all’università. L’aula is the room, la classe is the pupils: tutta la classe va in gita (the whole class is going on a trip); la classe is also the year: faccio la terza (I’m in the third year). In Italy there is la scuola elementare (primary school, 5 years), la scuola media (middle school, 3 years) and le superiori, that is il liceo or l’istituto (5 years), which end with la maturità, the final exam. Marks go from 1 to 10, and 6 is a pass. You fai i compiti (do your homework), prendi un voto (get a mark), fai una verifica (take a test). In primary school the teacher is il maestro or la maestra; later, il professore or la professoressa. The school and the library are in The city, teachers in Jobs, the student and the classmate in The people around us.
