Vocabulary A1–A2
Observe the scene and discover each word through the image and three example Italian sentences.

To say how you feel, use essere or sentirsi with the adjective agreeing with you: sono contento (a man), sono contenta (a woman), mi sento stanca; felice, triste, entusiasta and impaziente have one form for both. Some emotions take avere: ho paura (I’m afraid), ho vergogna or mi vergogno (I’m ashamed). Careful with a false friend: before a trip or an exam you are emozionato, not eccitato, which has a sexual meaning. Solo means alone (vivo da solo) and also lonely (mi sento solo). A mood passes, character stays: oggi sono nervoso (I’m nervous today) is not è una persona nervosa (he’s a nervous person); character adjectives are in the lesson Animal personality. In the exercise you can also write the noun: la felicità, la paura, la rabbia.
