Vocabulary A1–A2
Observe the scene and discover each word through the image and three example Italian sentences.

To talk about the weather Italian often uses fare: fa caldo (it’s hot), fa freddo (it’s cold), fa bel tempo (the weather is nice), fa brutto tempo (the weather is bad). Piove, nevica and grandina have no subject: there is no word for “it”. With nouns you use c’è: c’è il sole, c’è vento, c’è nebbia. Careful: fa caldo is about the weather, ho caldo about how you feel (“I’m hot”). Il tempo also means “time”: non ho tempo. Seasons are written in lower case: in primavera, in autunno, d’estate or in estate, d’inverno or in inverno. Days and months are in the lesson Days, months and dates in Italian.
